Allseas wins contact for major gas pipeline in Mexico

Allseas has been awarded a construction contract by TC Energy, a North American gas and energy company, for an offshore pipeline, delivering natural gas to southeast Mexico, the Southeast Gateway Pipeline.

The Southeast Gateway Pipeline, for TC Energy and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE), Mexico's state utility, will run approximately 700 kilometres south along the coast from Tuxpan connecting the ports of Coatzacoalcos and Dos Bocas. Indeed, the 566-hectare refinery, under construction by the Dos Bocas maritime terminal, in the Paraíso municipality will be the biggest refinery in Mexico and the first to be built in 40 years. This pipeline is one of the first major natural gas infrastructure construction projects emerging from a new alliance between TC Energy and CFE.

Construction

Allseas will use pipelay vessels including the Solitaire, Tog Mor, and the Lorelay to lay the 700 kilometres of 36-inch pipes, starting at the end of 2023. The pipeline is scheduled to be in service by mid-2025. In addition to the engineering and installation of a 690-km, 36-inch pipeline, the full scope of the work will also include the fabrication of subsea structures, five pipe pull-through tunnels, 290 kilometres of post-lay trenching, pre- and post-lay dredging and backfilling, rock installation, surveys, spool installations using divers, and pre-commissioning.
